He is a regular member of the jury at the International Violin Competition "Queen Sophie Charlotte" in Mirow, at the "Szymon Goldberg International Competition for Violin and Viola" in Meissen and at the International Competition for Violin Kloster Schöntal and follows as a guest professor invitations to master classes in Italy, France, Poland, Germany and China.
Prof. Skerdjano Keraj is counted among the formative personalities of his generation in the field of violin and artistic education. His career combines the highest instrumental excellence with sustained pedagogical impact.
His musical education began at the age of six at the renowned art boarding school Liceu Artistik "Jordan Misja" in Tirana. His extraordinary talent soon became apparent, which later led him to Germany. At Folkwang University of the Arts, he studied violin and chamber music under Prof. Andreas Reiner and completed his artistic studies with distinction. He subsequently passed his concert exam under Prof. Werner Scholz in Berlin and Rostock, also with the highest distinction.
In 2001, Skerdjano Keraj was awarded the renowned Folkwang Prize for Music and also received prizes at the International Chamber Music Competition in Thessaloniki.
From 2003 to 2015, he was concertmaster of the Aachen Symphony Orchestra and the Palatinate Philharmonic Kaiserslautern. During this time, he substantially shaped the artistic profile of these orchestras. As a sought-after guest concertmaster, he worked with leading ensembles, including the Stuttgart Philharmonic, the WDR Broadcasting House Orchestra Cologne, the Düsseldorf Symphony, the Orchestra of Opera Vlaanderen, and the SWR Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart. His artistic activities also took him as a soloist, chamber musician, and concertmaster to numerous European music centers.
Prof. Keraj is also a prominent figure in the international competition scene. He is a regular jury member of major competitions, including the International Violin Competition "Queen Sophie Charlotte" in Mirow, of which he is vice-chairman, the International Szymon Goldberg Competition in Meissen, and the International Violin Competition Monastery Schöntal. As a guest professor, he is regularly invited to master classes throughout Europe and Asia, including in Italy, France, Poland, Germany, and China.
Since 2008, Skerdjano Keraj has been teaching violin, chamber music, and orchestral literature at the Cologne University of Music and Dance, Aachen location. In 2015, he was appointed Professor of Violin. In addition to his teaching duties, he is Pro-Dean and deputy director of the Aachen location.
